Why Is It Better To Buy a Home Than Rent One? Practical and Aesthetic Considerations When Looking at Homes for Sale

Many of us get really comfortable renting homes because the process is a fairly simple one.  You go to see the home, you decide whether you like it, and you leave the person a check for the security deposit.  Of course, there are times when things are a little more complicated, such as when the person wants to check out your credit report and get a copy of your paycheck.  But if you have a stable job and a stable credit history, you don’t have much to worry about.

When you’re looking at homes for sale, on the other hand, you have to make sure that you have savings so that you can put in a down payment and you also have to apply for a mortgage which can be a complicated process.  Still, there are many advantages to buying a home as opposed to renting one.

Practical Advantages of Buying a Home

First of all, when you buy a home, you can make it into whatever you visualize.  When you’re renting a home, it may not make any sense to get the latest appliances because it will be a headache to take them with you when you leave.  So you’ll have to make do with whatever is available in terms of the washer/dryer, dishwasher, stove, oven etc.  If all of these are really old and don’t function all that well, there’s nothing you can do about it.  If you love cooking, having old or decrepit cooking appliances can really get in the way of developing your interest.

Aesthetic Advantages of Buying a Home

Aesthetically as well, you’re limited in what you can do with a rented home.  Let’s say the home has four small bedrooms but you would like to have two large ones.  You can’t knock down the walls of a rented home, but you could do this in a home that you own.  When you own a home, you can really make it fit your vision of the place that you’d like to live in.  In a rented home, the most you can do is paint the walls a different color.

So for both, practical and aesthetic reasons, it’s a good idea to own a home rather than to buy one.  If you’re thinking about buying a home in Southern California, contact us and we’ll help you find the perfect place for you.
