Walden Single-Family Project Breaks Ground

GARDEN GROVE, CA-Brandywine Homes has broken ground on a single-family detached-home community here called Walden. The community will be built on nearly two acres and feature 18 homes with full driveways on 3,000-square-foot lots.

Walden will be located off Katella Ave., in the heart of Orange County and close to freeways, the Disney theme parks, Downtown Disney and Knott’s Berry Farm and Soak City. Construction is expected to be completed by Sumer 2014.

Once completed, the Walden project is expected to generate nearly $134,000 a year in property-tax revenue and pump $558,000 into the local economy, based on a formula by the National Association of Home Builders.

Homes will feature stainless-steel kitchen appliances, granite countertops and two-toned paint. “These homes will have high-end amenities, and owners will be near restaurants, shopping and nightlife,” says Brett Whitehead, president of Brandywine Homes. “This project should employ well over 150 people during construction and the economic boost to the city of Garden Grove will be significant.”

The site is currently home to the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, which hasn’t been utilized by the owners for years, but has been leased to other congregations for their use. The seller, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, was represented by Gerald R. Bushore Real Estate Broker Inc.

As GlobeSt.com reported in August, Brandywine Homes closed escrow on a multifamily development, a community of two-bedroom, single-level flats and two-story townhomes located on 1.1 acres on Knott Ave., just north of Orangethorpe Ave. in Buena Park. The firm declined to name construction costs for the project, which is expected to be completed by next summer.
