Five Tips For Staging Your Home to Sell Quickly
Aug. 19, 2019
Congratulations! You have chosen a new home to buy and move into. In the midst of this excitement comes the realization you may now have to sell your current house. There are a few tricks of the trade to speeding that process along ensuring your property becomes the perfect home for a new couple or family!
1. Declutter Everywhere: Don’t just attack the places you can see like countertops and bookshelves. Go a little deeper like the pantry and closets. Viewers in your home may open doors and drawers to get a feel for themselves what the storage is like in a particular space.
2. Improve Your Curb Appeal: Since first impressions are so important, freshen up your front door area with a coat of paint, a quick power wash, and, change out your doormat to something new and welcoming perhaps. Mow the grass, prune your trees and plant a few flowers if possible.
3. Give Each Room a Purpose: Don’t leave your spare bedroom empty and up to imagination when you have people checking out your house. Stage that space with an idea they could also incorporate. Add a desk and shelves to suggest a home office or some gym equipment and feature it as a home fitness area.
4. Let There Be Light: Rooms that appear dark don’t always show well in an open house scenario. While you can’t necessarily add new wired-in lighting, you can increase the wattage in your lamps (check the maximum allowed first) and add more table, floor and wall lamps where you can. Aim for 100 watts of light per 50 square feet for maximum illumination.
5. Tempt the Senses: On open house day, incorporate natural and scented elements where you can. Bake some cookies in the morning so the homey goodness lingers just a little in the kitchen. Cut fresh flowers and place them throughout the house. Stage real lemons in a bowl in the kitchen. These little touches will make your home look and feel loved and welcoming.
