Located in the San Gabriel Valley, the land Baldwin Park sits on today began as the grazing area for cattle belonging to the San Gabriel Mission. In 1860 it was named Vineland and in 1906, the name was changed to Baldwin Park for Elias “Lucky” Baldwin. Lucky Baldwin relocated to California from Ohio in 1853 during the height of the gold rush. After many successful business ventures in Northern California, hence the name Lucky, including mines, hotels theaters and key stock trades, he eventually relocated to Southern California.

One of the most famous businesses (well, famous to Californians!) to open in Baldwin Park on October 22, 1948, was the first In-N-Out burger stand, eventually becoming the first drive-through in the state. A replica of this iconic location has been rebuilt and is open Monday through Thursdays for visits for those who want to take a “double double” trip down burger lane.

Today the population of Baldwin Park sits in the mid 70,000s. Points of interest in this area include the Santa Fe Dam, considered one of the hidden jewels of Southern California with its 70-acre lake with year-round fishing. Less than ten miles away are the Santa Anita Race Park, The Huntington Library and the beautiful trails in Eaton Canyon. And for those warm summer days California’s largest water park, Raging Waters Los Angeles, is a short drive away.
