A developer specializing in small and mid-sized “infill” housing projects announced recently that it plans to build 20 houses near the Santa Ana-Garden Grove border just west of the Riverview Golf Course. Brandywine Homes of Irvine purchased a 2.5-acre tract from six owners near the intersection of Trask Avenue and Fairview Street in Garden Grove, according to a company statement. The price of the land purchase was not disclosed.
The Mediterranean-style homes should be ready for sale about a year from now. The company didn’t say how much it expects to ask for the new houses, but said they will be between 1,600 to 2,150 square feet in size. The name of the new project is Pomelo. Clearly new homes will sell. In Irvine, the Irvine Co says it’s already sold out 4 projects opened in January.
The homes will include such amenities as granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances and two-tone custom paint jobs, the company statement said. In addition, according to the company’s website: “Pomelo’s homes will include 3 to 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and attached 2 car Garages. Designed with inviting Great Rooms and large lofts, these homes are ideal for first time homebuyers.”
Brandywine currently is building 70 homes in Westminster and Stanton. Its statement says that it has built about 50 homes a year though the recession and now hopes to double that volume within the next nine months. The company has its sights set on seven other properties that it hopes to acquire in the next year.
Company President Brett Whitehead said:
“We stayed true to our strengths – building infill homes that truly reflect local demand – and as a result, we are healthy, well-funded and positioned for solid growth.”
