Mother’s Day Events Around Orange County
May. 08, 2017
It’s understandable that Mom wants to spend Mother’s Day at home with the family or if you want to leave Mom by herself on that day as you take the kids somewhere else. But you still want to honor your favorite lady with a special celebration for the occasion. You can have both. Before or after that special Sunday, you’ll find many Mother’s Day events happening around Orange County. Here’s a sampling of the best.
Stroll through the gardens.
West Floral Park ranks as one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in North Santa Ana because of its vintage homes and large lots. On Saturday, May 13, from 10 am to 4 pm, Open Garden Day invites you to stroll through residential gardens that are only open to the public on this day. You’ll tour beautiful backyards and water-saving front yards, shop at a garden bazaar, learn at gardening lectures, and admire vintage cars and motorcycles. Quell your hunger and thirst at several food trucks. Admission is charged.
Commune with whales.
May calls forth giant blue whales and finback whales to appear up and down our coast. Mom can get up close and personal with them on a Whale Watching Cruise that leaves from Newport Beach. Several options are available including a general cruise with a bar, indoor/outdoor seating, an upper viewing deck, and special seating in the captain’s quarters. There’s also a Six-Passenger Adventure that carries from two to six people in a 24-foot US Navy patrol boat. Children are welcome to enjoy the experience.
Join the kids.
If your Mom wants to be with the kids, the Pretend City Children’s Museum holds its Mother’s Day Celebration on Saturday, May 13, from 10 am to 5 pm. Activities for the day include art sessions that create a handprint bouquet for Mom, story time about “The Night Before Mother’s Day,” and a game “What’s in Mom’s Purse,” for discovering what Mom carries around. Activities are included with museum admission.
Be dazzled by Magique
In Buena Park, Cirque Magique dazzles with circus acts from around the world in an intimate setting. Kids are also welcome to enjoy highly interactive acrobats, clowns, magicians, and glamorous performers. Don’t be surprised if you or members of your family volunteer to be on stage. Enjoy the show while seated around a table and having a meal that is part of your ticket. Show times are at lunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Check out special offers on the website for discounts.
Visit the past.
If Mom is into vintage, she can travel to different times at the Remnants of the Past Vintage Show, happening on Friday, May 12, and Saturday, May 13, at the OC Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa. For the price of admission, she’ll peruse and shop for furniture and accessories in such styles as Mid-Century Modern, French Farmhouse, European Rustic, Industrial, and Bo-Ho Chic. She can arrange to have large finds delivered directly to her home. Even the men in the family can relax in the Man Cave. Plan on spending the whole day there: gourmet food, wine, and beer will be available.
Buy a house.
What can be a more valuable and memorable gift for Mom than a new home? Take her to visit one or more of our developments in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. We offer houses in multiples sizes, styles, and price points. She’ll discover the latest decorating trends and be wowed by the latest in residential architecture and technology. Give us a call and tell us what she’s looking for. We’ll be happy to suggest models that best fit her needs.
