Getting to Know Your Neighbors After Moving Into Your New Home in Orange County, California

If you are moving into your new home in Orange County, you might not know anyone in the neighborhood. Moving is stressful, and being the newcomer can leave you feeling isolated. Here are some tips to getting to know your new neighbors.

See and Be Seen

You will never get to meet any of your neighbors if you stay in the house. Get active and get outside. You and your family should start taking a walk around the neighborhood in the late afternoon or early evening when people are about. Bring your children; you might meet neighbors who are parents too. If you have a dog, this is a great way to break the ice with neighbors. On the weekend, get out and work in the yard. Strike up conversations with neighbors passing by.

Host a Cookout

This should be your version of a house-warming party. If you have children, you can get them involved by having them create the invitations and deliver them. You can make your cookout a potluck. While providing the main course, ask your neighbors to bring the sides. This is a great way to see the types of foods they like. If you do not want all the hassle of cooking out and asking your neighbors to bring food, you can have the entire affair catered.

Volunteer for the Neighborhood Association

If you have moved into a home with an active neighborhood association, volunteering your time is a great way to meet your neighbors and make friends. If your neighborhood association has monthly meetings, you will want to attend. Show your support of the neighborhood and arrive early to meet the neighbors.

Host a Children’s Party

From a sleepover to a little girl’s tea party, inviting your children’s friends over to play will allow you to meet their parents.
